fun things to explore in Ashe County NC. Ashe County and West
Jefferson are in an area known for its distinct mountain music and
art. There are several spots to enjoy not only live music
but also visual art as there are numerous galleries, museums and
craft shops. To hear some phenomenal bluegrass
music, head on down to the Mountain Music Jamboree in Jefferson
or the Todd General Store which is locally known for hosting
their famous Friday night jam sessions. Browse through the local
art galleries found throughout West Jefferson’s downtown Art’s
District and you’ll find some quality art in various mediums.
Also, Ashe County’s beautiful Churches of the Frescoes are
simply a must-see! The Churches of the Frescoes are two area
Episcopal churches that display several gorgeous fresco murals
that were painted by artist Ben Long.
 One of Ashe County’s oldest attractions and a place that
everyone always wants to visit is the Ashe County Cheese
Company. Children of all ages enjoy learning about cheese and
actually watching it made, and adults love the assortment of
various cheeses to sample and purchase. It may sound cheesy, but
you simply MUST stop by the cheese factory! You’ll be glad you
did!
If you enjoy shopping, Ashe County is the home of some great
boutiques and specialty stores and downtown West Jefferson is a
wonderful place to begin your shopping adventures. Stroll down
the historic streets and you’ll find an abundance of great
places to find unique gift items and various crafts. If you shop
and work up an appetite, enjoy dining at one of the numerous,
well-established restaurants in Ashe County.
